haha... i think can get married. just not encouraged. cos if you have children, the genes will sort of mutate then the child may be born with abnormalities.. haha.. read it somewhere.. :D

I dun think its true lah, but try to avoid thats all. Becuse chinese go through many generations in different areas...

then how about other races?
think they don't have a consistent surname ler ???
According to history is cannot. Cos last time the people and family are all the same. They do not wan members of the same family to marry each other. But now with a new generation and a change of mindset. The people with the same surname can come from many different places. So i tink now is can. They will not mind. BUT.. Maybe ur elders may object... MAYBE only...

same surname, can get married.
same surname, better not have children.
i've also heard that there might be abnormalities in the child born by parents of the same surname. but how true is that, i don't know as i've read cases in american countries where parents of the same surname have bore perfectly normal children. however, it may not be necessary true for asian countries.
haha.. if ur parents/grandparents v traditional den cannot get married..
cos' ur grandpa's grandpa's grandpa' grandpa's ........ **the line continues** is the same person.
So that means, somewhat or another, u r related lo..
that is what my friend's grandparents (Taiwanese) used to tell me..

wad the hell. where gt such ting..
ur mum n dad may have different surnames but u take ur dads wad.. but even if they practice tt rule. then no1 will break u up wif ur gf even if she has the same surname as ur mum.
but u do carry ur mums genes too.. rite? lol.
so which means after 5 generations or so.. u shld nver haf kids. coz chances are ur family history if every generation gives birth to 2 babies.. it would have about 10 or even 20 sets of different genes or surname.

cursed or something ?
lol .
Long long time ago, same surname was under one family.
yep , true we all have our mother's side of the gene .
but what can u do when ur whole family disagree with ur GF ?
well, perhaps these "traditions" sld end somewhere ?

Same surname cannot get married?
Hmmm
Its the 21st century alr leh, there's still ppl following this tradition?
And about the same genes thing, I think it only apply to cousins in the family of the same surname.

her surname is van calcar
then what happens was the whole list came out.
from so call the clan starter to her.
and its updated and damn accurate.
since she's a dutch. and her surname is so unique.
so easier to check..
chinese surname too common,
and chinese are the largest population right?
if all the chinese in china were to walk past you.

Hmm. I think it very much applies only to the "traditional-thinking" homes. Young people nowadays don't really care, do they?

LOL nono ure mistaken.
1. I have no girlfriend
2. I do not believe in that surname thing although i am curious.
I mean, from my point of view, are we to hold back our emotions and not be united if we share the same surname? something that we do not see, feel, or erm feel (sorry, its repetitive but it sounds more dramatic), is going to limit our actions in deciding how to love?
heh.

haha...i dun think so ba...since the gene is totally different than others with the same surname...
ecinaj89
08-09-2008, 12:49 PM
Normally the same race will have quite similiar genes..
In order not to have high chance of mutated babies, it's best to have someone who is of a different race.. hahaha.. their babies are stronger, because their genes are different.. that's what i've heard from my lecturer during my elective module.. hahaha..
EricSng
08-09-2008, 02:57 PM

As far as Adam dam and Eve....so really no point tracing back to the root, but just listen to the old generation advice, there is a chinese saying "Bu Ting lao Ren Yan, Chi Qui Zai Yan Qian", direct translate is, if you dun heed elderly advice, the only thing you foresee will be bad/unlucky.

Scientifically, it's cos the people from the same family have got the same genes of something similar, then if you further mix with the same genes, the child will be born defect. *Proven i think...i read this somewhere....*
Traditionally, cos you're from the same family. So is it alright to marry you sister? or brother?
Thats what i know la..
from what Darwin said, we all derived from black! Africa
