JC people smarter than poly!? I dun think so.
I have friends getting really low cut off marks (l1r4) going for poly rather than JC.

It's just a matter of where you wanna go in future.

And if anyone says Polys are for slackers, they are sooo darn wrong bout that. It depends on the course =3=

But what I heard is, poly food is better than JC's. Muahahahhaha.

Haha, actually I think that JCs are those who wanna try to be like doctor and lawyer etc... Those who cannot make it is just the same as poly students...

or JC is for those people who "just want to study"

hideaki
06-20-2008, 02:29 PM
what i think is that students in jc focus more on theory whereas students in poly learn more of the practical part.

i think poly students have the upperhand while competing for jobs as they know more of the technical aspect as compared to jc students who only know how to theorize. these days, poly students stand a better chance in getting jobs, don't they?

I think it all depends on who you are asking. For me, the education system is just screwed up.

and it doesnt help that people act elitist, which is just digusting.

I mean, what right gives them to assume and act as if they are better? of course only handful la, but still. grr

People studying in JC don't have a target ahead of them, they just need an extra two years to figure out which path to take and where to go.

On they other hand, here in Poly, we pretty much got everything figured out when we did our JAE.

Fact:
If you fail JC A level, you are just a qualified O level student with no where to go.
JC is harder than poly for some because of their GP (general Paper) which most people cant make it.
JC is for people who likes to have lots of holidays, even national day, which poly cant get.
Poly is for people who cant find their interest course in JC.
Poly is easier to get a diploma than JC getting a A level cert.
Poly easier to get into Uni compare to JC (except for those nerd), because our GPA easier to score 4.0.
JC and Poly foodcourt just suck, no doubt about that when you are there for 2 years eating the same food again and again.
But poly got much more foodcourt than JC (eg. SP got 6 foodcourts)
JC is preferred for ppl who cant manage their time and need a class time table to do so.
JC is preferred for ppl who dun like dirty stuff and exercise just like what Engineering is doing.
Js is preferred for ppl who do not have fashion sense or no money to buy different clothes (uniform will do well for them) < Not applied to all JC students.

hate that term...well if there are still people says that i will likely to answer with...jc people may be smart but exam smart....poly result might not be as good as jc students but they are street smart...the more important smartness to survive in any society...2ndly as have said there are many students those who can get into a good jc oso come poly...

i dun think its a fair comparison.
i think jc and poly are two totally different thing.
jc is just another secondary-similar education.
poly is already tertiary.

coldkohmew
08-29-2008, 03:07 PM
Uni also called tertiary
Private school also called tertiary

so dun always compare JC and poly...

My parents told me that Poly Cert is higher than JC,but it's not easy to enter Local Uni if we r from Poly route, but looks like my blogfriend so far I have seen their feedbacks,5thkzekage & AAsama has make it to NUS,make poly students proud as well and boost our morale for the coming semester to work even harder on April 20 :)

animaniaboy23
04-03-2009, 01:44 PM
Yup,I agree with vroomVROOM,poly life is quite comfortable too and besides having a poly cert when applying for local University relevant course,u will get a headstart as well and a bit advantage as the lecturers do not have to spend more time in teaching and clearing your doubts as well, this is what I believe, then for JC students when applying in their course same as well,I believe they're smarter and this matter will also be resolved too even if they don come from Poly for their case :)

vroomVROOM

indeed, but in NP you could actually join for advanced maths program, and it's standard is almost cover up to uni second year.
Moreover, it is approved and recognized by NUS and NTU
other than advanced maths program, NP offers other related advanced program to their current students, to catch up and compete with JC student in uni.

wat is true is tat an A cert is equal to an O cert when you look for job in future while a dip is higher than the A cert cos employer noes that we got more practical than jc stud.
going to u from poly is difficult based on course as not all course is easy to score-provided you study hard. also poly lecturer will try their best to help us score like including asignments n stuff while jc onli exam which is y they study like mad.
poly prepares for u life cos we always rush for lectures, my fren say she got a "shock" cos it is so diff compare to jc

to noe the cut off points for u can go to http://styke.sg/266/grade-profile-for-2009-university-admission-exercise n check it out.

JC is just a shorter route to uni. A diploma is always better than an "A" Level cert. The uni has more places for JC students than poly students.. so it seems like it is "more difficult" to get in...

Personally, I prefer Aussie uni's...

Lulucherry
06-08-2009, 08:31 PM
i look at it as just different routes in life....

ppl from jc..... really wants to get into a uni....

ppl from poly..... wants to go to work asap.... dun like the rigid system in jc...

but when both the poly stu n jc stu ends up in uni.. its the same

Seriously, poly life is much more relax than jc, that's what i heard from all my friends. The only thing that is not relaxing in poly is the science courses, we are like always so busy remembering things, not relaxing at all:(

lol maybe i don't have friend from media course so i don't know....
Whether jc life is slacking or very busy, is mostly depend on which collage, some are quite slack, some not, i have one friend quit jc and join poly because of 'stressful-ness'....

JC - 2 years
Go uni - 4 years
Total - 6 years
Additional comment: English must be decent to go JC or definitely fail in GP. Majority go Uni. Wide range of degree options

Polytechnic - 3 years
Go uni - If lucky = 3 years
Total - 6 years
Additional comment: GPA must be good throughout. 1 screwup = may lose your chance. Top 5 - 10% go UNI. Limited degree options.

Both have their ups and downs. My english isn't good so poly is better for me.

Even though Poly has many continual assessments which are almost all Graded, continuous learning as well which we could apply in our daily life :) ,for JC it's more like only one shot attempt which is the GCE A Level Exam :( I agree with my friend XiaoBoiBoi maybe can I call u boyboy instead might be easier when I feedback/reply to U :D

people who can make it to JC does not mean they are smarter then us, POLY is about self discipline and managment, where one has to plan his own schedule well...able to balance assignment and social life well, thats explain why alot of poly student is able to do part time job and study....while JC route is meant for nerd to study and study in order to master their textbook....for me,i would prefer poly more becus being able to handle work and life is a skill that enable ones to grow up and face the real society..JCs people are still like schling boys..no realife experience yet
